I usually don't leave reviews except on car mechanics and restaurants, but this place was worth the effort. Went here for second opinion after a bad experience at a dental office in Kearney Mesa and I was blown away. Dr. Fred really takes his time to do the right thing and genuinely cares about patient outcomes. They don't push extra procedures or hefty maintenance plans on you. He just tells you straight what his professional opinion is, his recommendation, and if something isn't in your budget they give you alternatives and let you know financing options. I was also just casually curious about their Invisalign treatment, and it ended up being such a good deal with insurance and a special running through the holidays that I ended up getting it done in addition to my normal maintenance. If I were to be really critical, my only criticism would probably be that I've had referrals have difficulty reaching the office by phone following major holidays, but that feels understandable given the sheer volume of patients they have. As far as treatment, customer service, and price goes it's been my favorite dental experience out of the 5 dental offices I've visited over the course of my life. Can't recommend them highly enough.

Before finding Dr Fred I had had some pretty traumatic dental experiences. I hate to admit it, but it had been seven years since I had seen a dentist, but my experience with Dr Fred was so amazing that I go every six months without fail. His staff is so warm and receptive and his office is so inviting, they make me feel very comfortable. They also have great communication and ensure that you know when your appointments coming up so you don't miss a thing. I have been coming to Dr Fred for eight years now, and everyone of my family now comes here and friends we have referred. Other offices were always trying to upsell us, and I was very uncomfortable with that. But I have never felt sold to in this office. I came here for my first appointment. Had a very gentle cleaning and doctor was attentive and spent considerable amount of time with me. I'm supposed to come back for a couple of feelings. The atmosphere in the office is relaxing and friendly and I enjoyed my visit.

My old dentist spent 2 years trying to fix my teeth with Invisalign and failed! Dr. Fred Harandi at SD Smile did it in 2 months! Not only was it cheaper (coz they had a promo when I signed up) but I also loved the results! He also polished off my teeth to make them look more even. They gave me a couple of free teeth whitening gels to use with my old aligners too. The technology they use to scan your teeth was also top of the line - I didn’t have to do any uncomfortable molds! Their scheduling and reminders are also super helpful. You get a text and an email as well as a confirmation before your appointment! Their front desk manager is also super easy to talk to and very welcoming. ?

I had a great experience. I called a day before and they were able to accommodate me the next day! That was huge because most dentists say they are fully booked for the next two months. Every body was nice, from the receptionist to the doctor. Amber, the dental hygienist, was extremely sweet and gentle. She cleaned my teeth really well and took the time to explain to me in lamen words the importance of flocing and how a poor dental hygiene can lead to teeth loss. Over the last year Dr. Fred and his team helped me get Invisalign. The process involves repeated visits to make sure it's working properly. I probably went there 8-10 times in the roughly 12 months it took to straighten out my teeth. On every visit, Dr. Fred and his team were nothing short of professional and courteous. I don’t have the best feeling when it comes to dentist visits. I’ve had bad memories as a kid which is why I avoid it as much as possible. However, after visiting Dr Freds office about year ago, going to the dentist now is like going to Disneyland for adults lol! Its the happiest place on Earth. SD Smile Dentistry has been caring for my oral health since 2012! I was so scared of going to the dentist until I met Dr. Fred, Tom, and Shah (the coolest office dog!). My dental experiences before SD Smile Dentistry were so traumatic that Dr. Fred prescribed medication to help me relax before my appointments. Context: I have a decent amount of dentist-anxiety, so prior to this I hadn't been to a dentist in a very long time. Last week, I found myself panicking after a filling cracked, and I desperately searched for a place that would see me quickly. I called at least 5 offices before I called San Diego Smile, and when Tom answered the phone he put me immediately at ease. He helped me get a 4:10pm appointment on the very same day, and was extremely kind and helpful when scheduling followups. The appointment started exactly on time, and I was offered something to drink while I waited. My hygienist Amber was incredible. She was funny and patient, and she explained everything as she went. The cleaning took no time at all, I was honestly shocked when she told me she was finished. When Dr. Fred came in and started his evaluation, he kept me in the conversation the whole time, and they both suggested a few changes I could make that would improve the health of my teeth. I have a few followups scheduled over the next few weeks and I'm not dreading them at all (which is a first!). I would highly recommend!

I have been coming for over a year now. I have gotten 2 root canals and a deep cleaning. The deep cleaning, I was a little afraid. Amber did a great, gentle job. No pain. Most is very stress free and they are very intuitive on the patients comfort. I highly recommend.

I've been going to San Diego Smile Dentistry for a few years now and I only have had good experiences. From the second you walk in the door you're cheerfully greeted by the welcoming front desk staff, who make the administration portion of your visit a breeze. The hygienist/technical staff are wonderfully friendly, always asking about how I'm doing and remembering the conversations we've shared in the past. Further, you can tell what deep commitment they have to their craft because they're always happy to provide knowledge and skill tips that have made my personal dental care better over the years (this last visit I was allowed to hold a mirror and watch how best to floss, I know, nobody likes it, but it's worth it in the long run). The office it self is state of the art. Offering basically every service I've asked for and know of and probably many more that I'm unaware of. And all of the classic dental advertisements and comics that are hanging throughout are always a point that stands out when I go. Last but definitely not least, Dr. Harandi (I hope I spelled that right) is extremely skillful, efficient, and responsive. I have a very sensitive mouth and on the occasions where I've needed fillings he's found alternative ways to complete the work needed when his first choice was too much for me to handle. TL:DR SD Smile Dentistry is staffed with the highest quality professionals I've found in a dentist's office thus far. They're caring and genuine. Check them out! Cheers!

I just had 2 implants done by Dr. Fred at SD Smile Dentistry. I had met with 4 different Dentist regarding this procedure. I finally decided on Dr. Fred because of his expertise, his high-tech office and his very nice staff. He also worked with me on a payment plan, which was really helpful as I did not have dental insurance. I am so glad that I made this decision because Dr. Fred did an awesome job! It took awhile, but Dr. Fred made sure to do every step along the way perfectly, so everything went smoothly. From the initial extractions to the final crown, everything went really smooth. I've always been bothered by my two particularly crooked front teeth, so I came here to see if I could get Invisalign done. Dr. Fred took a look and said Invisalign could definitely work, and also fix some crowding issues with a few of my other teeth, so we did a scan and ordered the first round of aligners. Every few weeks I went back for a quick check-in to make sure everything was going as intended. Throughout the process, Dr. Fred was informative and easy to work with. After the first round of aligners, he re-evaluated my teeth and we both felt like they still needed a little adjustment, so we went for another round. But the whole process took only about 7 months, and I'm very happy with the results! Now all of my front teeth are finally in line :D

Updating my review- Tom solved my insurance issues. Thank you Tom! Dr.Fred is one of the best dentists I have ever visited. He is quick, professional and efficient. Also, he always checks back with you to see if everything is fine after a dental treatment. The issue mentioned in the last review happened with me as well. They charged my insurance for two fillings on my first visit when only cleaning had been performed and had scheduled appointment for fillings for next appointment. Inspite of multiple attempts there is no response over the phone or email. Request you to please fix insurance issue.

This issue is solved now. Thank you Tom for taking care of this along with my insurance company. I have been a loyal patient with San Diego Smile Dentistry on Balboa . But they had made a mistake on my invoice. They over - charged me for a service not performed and it has been directly deducted from my HRA. I request the Clinic to correct this.

Went in for a check-up and the staff were very helpful and friendly. They also offer tea and coffee in the waiting room! I didn't have to wait long at all and was in and out quickly.

I can't say more positive things about this dental office! Tom communicated with me as I obtained records from another practice to ensure they were ready for my first visit. He was patient and helpful as I rescheduled a few times due to COVID-19 related work changes. I was greeted with a warm welcome, a quick check in, and no wait time. It was clear (even prior to my apt) that the office has a seamless and safe COVID-19 protocol in place. Dr. Fred spent more time with me at my first visit than any Dentist ever has (which to me, showed incredible patient care). Dr. Fred listened to my dental concerns, provided education and recommendations, a thorough exam and cleaning, and followed up the next day to see how implementation of dental care was going thus far. I look forward to being a loyal patient at this office and HIGHLY recommend.

This is an awesome world class dentist office with a family feel. I had some difficulty with a crown and had to have it replaced, their quality of work was very good, Dr. Soojin Taylor is very talented, and all of the staff are very pleasant. Wow, where do I begin? Dr. Fred is a Godsend! He saved me from spending thousands on unnecessary dental work and it was such a pleasant experience from start to finish. Living in PB for the last 5 years I had always gone to PB Smiles for my routine cleanings and checkups (out of convenience), and didn't love that I always had a totally different staff and experience. This last time I went in to that office was this June during Covid and I was also looking to find out about getting crowns on my front teeth. This crackpot dentist- Dr. Tarighati- told me that I needed about $6k worth of work on fillings to be replaced that for some reason my insurance wouldn't cover and then was going to charge another $5k for 4 crowns. I decided to do some research to find a good dentist for a second opinion and came across Dr. Fred. I saw all his positive reviews and called his office to request a free consultation to review what PB Smiles had told me and they were happy to do so. Basically Dr. Fred broke it down that I was about to get completely ripped off. All I really needed were 2 fillings replaced and Dr. Fred was able to do that and 6 crowns for literally half of what the other office quoted me. Besides saving me a ton of money, his bedside manner is absolutely terrific, and being like the majority of the population that isn't fond of visits to the dentist, having someone caring and personable working on your mouth makes such a difference. Also, I loved that I saw the same people each time I went in! Tom was so great with all the financial and scheduling stuff and was so flexible and accommodating. I regret that I never got Dr. Fred's assistant's name, but he was there every visit throughout the process and was such a doll! He brought me a blanket when I mentioned I was cold during the longest session and in general everyone was always very considerate of my comfort. Today, only 2 months later, I just paid off the remainder of my balance due and I love my teeth and have gotten so many compliments on how great they look! I CANNOT recommend this office enough!

This is a GREAT dentistry! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! I did my tooth extraction, implantation, lots of teeth fillings, root canal, and cleaning here. I have to say Dr. Fred is very responsible, has great techniques, and really cares about your dental health. He always follow up the next day of my every visits during implantation. He answers all my concerns with great patience. I remember there was one time I got a sudden toothache and contact Dr. Fred off hours (I guess very early in the morning), and he tried his best to fit me in his busy schedule. The pricing is also very REASONABLE and DEFINITELY WORTH IT!!

Wanted to give a big shout out to Dr. Fred Harandi, Carlie and Tom - they are simply amazing! They make 'going to the dentist' a fun, easy and effortless experience. First, you are greeted and checked in by Tom who is super friendly and makes you feel so welcome. Then I got my cleaning done by Carlie, who is very detailed and cleans your teeth to a T, without any uncomfortable mouth positions or instruments pushing in your mouth, there was seriously no discomfort and my teeth feel spic and span. And then Dr. Harandi checked everything, made sure all looked good and what we might want to consider on the next visit. This is a very well put together team which made for a very pleasant experience. I normally never really leave Yelp reviews but the experience was simply great, and I wanted you all to know so you can schedule your appointment and be as happy as I am :)

Let me start by saying I did extensive amount of research online and also went to multiple different consultations at different dental offices before deciding to move forwards with getting my dental veneers. Dr. Fred Harandi made me feel so at ease and didn't pressure me like a lot of other dentists did. He answered all of my questions honestly, and genuinely wanted me to make the best decision for myself based on what I wanted. Before even starting the process, he had the lab create a wax up smile model so that I could have a better image of how my teeth would look afterwards. With the wax up smile model, I was able to try the smile in my mouth temporary and decided what I like and what I wanted to change. Once I was happy with the wax up smile, I decided to go ahead with the dental procedure. During the prep day, I was nervous and scared that it might be painful. Dr. Harandi and his assistant eased my thought by explaining the procedure to me. He assured me that I won’t feel anything as I would be numb during the procedure. They made me feel so comfortable and even gave me a blanket, along with headphones to watch a movie or listen to music; while he worked on my teeth. It was very a nice touch and at the end of my appointment, I left the office with temporary veneers which already looked better than my original smile. At my next visit when the veneers came back from the dental lab, I was worried that they would look fake or not be the right color. Before cementing them, Dr. Harandi try them in my mouth so that I could see if I like them first. When he gave me the mirror to check, all my concerns about the appearance went away. The permanent veneers look even better than what I imagined it would turn out!! I am happy with the shape, the color and the appearance over all. My veneers ended up having just the right amount of translucency so that when the light reflects and passes through the teeth, it gives that natural stunning appearance. Having the right translucency will avoid the fake look “chiclet look”. I love that my veneers are white and bright but still look naturally stunning. Dr. Harandi also assure me that these are permanent, which meant the color won’t change overtime. I have had my veneers for 2 months now and I couldn’t be happier. We started the procedure in the middle of Covid-19 and I want to say I felt safe and in good hands during each visit to the office. Since getting these veneers, I feel extremely confident and I can’t stop smiling. My veneers feel like my natural teeth and also my smile alignment is now straighter and without any gaps between the teeth. For anyone who is considering getting veneers I highly recommend San Diego Smile Dentistry. I’m so thankful to have found Dr. Harandi and his team, for the dedicated time he took during this whole experience and how he takes pride in his work.

Recently needed some dental work, and without an established dentist in SD, I found Dr. Harandi and SD Smile dentistry. The staff is extremely professional and friendly, as is Dr. Harandi. Dr. Harandi and Tom are great! I switched dentists a few years ago and have been so pleased with the service and professionalism at San Diego Smile Dentistry. Appointment scheduling is great with text and email reminders...and with my busy schedule assistants I need the reminders. :) The dental assistants are very thorough and gentle with cleanings and if I get a cavity I know my visit will be quick and painless. Thanks to all the folks in the office who do such a great job delivering excellent customer service!

Been coming here for a decade now! Even after moving away I still come back. Drove down from LA today just to see my dentist Dr Harandi! Great as always. Had a chipped tooth and he was able to see me during this covid lockdown which was awesome. Asked him about Invisalign which they now offer and now I’m fixing some crowding issues I’ve experienced with my teeth. Super clean, attentive, excellent customer service as always!

Called and got an appointment the same day, Came into see the dentist because of tooth ache, Tom at the front desk greeted me and was super friendly as soon as I waked in. Did not wait long and had my exam done by Ahmed the dental assistant who also super friendly. Ask me what brought me in and felt like he was genuinely concerned about by symptoms. Dr Fred was also great! He examined me closely and gave me thorough explanation of what might be causing my pain. I Will be returning to get my cavities filled. Also to note, they were actively cleaning equipment throughout my examination and even screened me for COVID symptoms when I arrived, I was happy to see they are taking precautions!

Best dentist office I've ever been to. They explained everything very well, moved at a perfectly quick pace and made everything so easy. I will definitely be recommending this office to friends.

What an awesome experience. The entire team here is welcoming, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful. I had some insurance issues and Tom at the front helped me through everything! Audri was my hygienist who did my xrays and she talked me through the entire process. She also did my cleaning and was gentle and professional. Dr. Fred was wonderful as well and gave me some great practices to keep my teeth and gums healthy. I would give them more stars if I could. I’ll probably come back to them even if my insurance changes! Sincerely that’s how great they are.

Like everyone else, I truly had a 5-star experience. They listened to my fears and provided me with solutions. They also didn’t make me feel bad about the work I needed done. I just moved to San Diego, but I’m so glad I’ve already found a dentist. Tom and Audrey can’t be beat!

I cannot believe I have not reviewed this office yet. I have been coming here for more than 3 years now, and Dr. Fred and his team have delivered great dental care to my family and me. He recently hired a dental hygienist to help with his patient daily work load, and it has definitely created a positive impact to his office. Every staff member here is amazingly compassionate with their clientele, and I feel that I am in good hands every time I come in for my routine cleanings and such. The office is part of the Balboa Square office complex, and there is enough parking. During the visit, I always felt comfortable and received great dental instruction. Even during cleanings and fillings there is a screen overhead to watch Netflix. So yes I can Netflix and chill here at the dentist's office, how about dat? My insurance luckily covers this place, and I totally recommend anyone to try out Dr. Fred's office. His friendly and detailed team will help brighten your smile :)

I wrote a truthful 1 star review for my experience regarding a diagnosis of 10 cavities and have received non stop harassment via 7 emails, a phone call, 9 texts, and now legal threats. Dr. Fred has even gone as low as contacting my wife directly. Their office management is terrible with full voicemails and email inboxes so you are unable to contact them outside of business hours. Avoid this place like the plague.

This is the first time I have ever written a review on any social media site for a company review! Reviews can be damaging or they can help a company correct their issues. My complaint! I scheduled an appoint with SAN Diego Smile dentistry for August 5th 3PM for Inhouse Teeth Whitening. I work close to their office, so I gave them a call 15 minutes before my arrival. Turns out they no longer offer the inhouse teeth whitening. This was not relayed to me at the time I was scheduling the appointment when I specifically asked for Inhouse teeth whiting. My dental insurance does not cover this service. The cost is paid out of pocket by the customer. This means I was very specific about my request for service. Which included being quoted a price for the inhouse teeth whiting at the time of scheduling my appointment. The reason for not offering the service was understaffed and until they get another person, they would not have the time to commit to my appointment. I had scheduled the appoint over a month ago with August 5th being the earliest available date. Not only did they take up my time, but they showed little to no empathy about the results of their mistake. The receptionist who took my call lacked the quality of apology that was needed. The importance of handling a customer service problem is how you handle the issue after the outcome. I gave a 1 star because you can’t give anything lower. Just beware of the lack of organization, low to poor quality of service, and at whim changes to product! Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

All you need to do is call to schedule a date and time, the rest of the paperwork can be completed online prior to your visit. Once you walk in, you are immediately greeted by Megan, the rock star at the front end, she always made me feel welcomed and worked with me to move my appointments around when work got in the way. Once you're in the dreaded "chair" Dr. Harandi's and his team of hygienists make sure you feel comfortable a ready. They are clear to communicate what they are doing and pause when the occasional break is necessary. For those looking for a distraction during longer sessions they even have headsets paired with Netflix! Personally I had several cavities and needed to be fitted for a night guard when I sleep. My follow up visits at two hours a piece were near painless and they reached out to me after each appointment to see how I was doing. In addition, Dr. Harandi was also concerned with other aspects of my oral health and helped me create new routines and action plans to help prevent further damage in the future. On the back end billing was very transparent. Tom Harandi is great at breaking down what insurance covers and what needs to be paid out of pocket. As friendly and personable as the rest of the staff, he never lets me leave with out my next appointment reminder card. San Diego Smile Dentistry has created a customer for life and I would highly recommend them to anyone. Not only do they care about your teeth, but you, the client. Do yourself a favor and schedule them for your next cleaning, you will not be disappointed.

I have been going to San Diego Smile Dentistry since I moved to San Diego for college. Prior to this dental office, I had awful luck with my dentists in SD. I had hygienists that would make my gums bleed for days afterward. Here at this office, the hygienists are gentle, but they know how to get the job done. They do the teeth cleaning with efficiency, so you are out of there in no time, but also deftness, so you don't end up with bleeding gums and a sore jaw. Dr. Fred is friendly and knowledgeable about dental care. He explained the source of the various health symptoms I had and he also provided successful remedies! You get quality at San Diego Smile Dentistry from start to finish. Pre-registration is simple and the staff is sweet. They will send you reminders, so you don't forget about that amount you booked 6-months ago. Tom has been an angel in scheduling and answering all the questions I have. They are always prompt when you get in through the door and they seat you immediately and the location is right off of the freeway and parking is plentiful. They are also open past 5 pm, until 6 pm which makes it so much easier to get to the dentist. Just an amazing office overall!!!

I moved to Encinitas and still come here. Dr. Fred, Tom and all of the dental assistants are professional, kind and straight forward. Everyone in the office is always on time, they give you the time you need for a proper visit and allow time for questions. Dr. Fred will only advise you to do dental work that is needed or appropriate for you(r request) and he will do a great job with anything you need, weather it is for your health or cosmetic. Tom texts and calls to remind me about appointments and when I am due for a cleaning. I recommend this office to my friends and family, especially if you are uncomfortable with seeing the dentist.

San Diego Smile Dentistry is the best dentistry that I have ever used and would never consider another! Since retirement from the military, I've searched for a dentistry that I would feel confident using both from a comfort level as well as budget level. On the budget level, when it comes to your health it pays to never go cheap however after being with Dr. Fred for over 2 years, his staff and services are exactly as advertised! I've seen reviews where a dentist advertise a price and charge either yourself or insurance a different price. NOT at San Diego Smile Dentistry, you always know what you are going to be charged before the procedure. I'm talking from experience here as I've had cleaning, fillings, crowns and teeth whitening performed with Dr. Fred. Easy appointment setups, great service from his staff and Dr. Fred is the easiest dentist to talk with. Sometimes when I have an appointment I feel like I'm just going to catch up on the news with a friend! Sometimes when you have an appointment months later, I get the friendly reminder email on the appointment that I forgot I had. It's kinda funny that I was not looking for the cheapest dentist but I've compared my costs for a procedure with friends of mine and was astounded that Dr. Fred changed less than other dentists. Needless to say, those friends changes to Dr. Fred and thanked me for the referral. On the comfort level I don't think there is enough space on this review to really articulate how good Dr. Fred is with making his patients comfortable. For somebody like me, pain is not an issue so I spend most of my appointments catching up on episodes on Netflix through the googles he provides. I feel like I'm in a movie theater, just with my mouth open. There has even been a time, where I didn't know Dr. Fred was done and I was watching a movie and they let me sit there till I was finished! However I do have relative that had not gone to a dentist in 8 years because of her phobia with dentists, shots and sounds. I explained the situation to Dr. Fred and his staff so when I convinced her to get her 5 x cavities fixed, they were prepared. After her consultation she felt like she wanted to give it a try. The day of her appointment even I was nervous how this was going to go. Well after Dr. Fred did 2-3 hours of procedures on her, I asked her how it was. She was astounded at how painless her entire experience was. It completely fixed her phobia at least with Dr. Fred. I do believe if she left San Diego, she would fly back here just because of Dr. Fred, he is that good with comfort levels! She even makes her yearly checkups and cleanings without anxiety! It's truly amazing how great Smile Dentistry is when it comes to dental services. I've referred Smile Dentistry to at least 5 people and their experience's have all been the same! Truly amazing and I'm talking about things such as Veneers, crowns, bridges and even using his referrals' for a root canal! If I find something that I really like, I usually use word of mouth to refer the experience but I'm so convinced that Smile Dentistry is the best out there I've decided to write this review. I promise you will not be disappointed, especially with all the horror stories out there about dentists and their practices. Dr. Fred and your staff, I give you Five stars or more if I could.

This is hands down the best dentist I've ever been too. They deserve all of the 5 star reviews. From start to finish the staff were professional, friendly, timely and damn good at what they do. I arrived 10 minutes early completing all new patient paperwork online ahead of time. I was seen with 5 minutes of waiting. X-rays to the dental exam and cleaning we're very fast. The staff did a great job at providing a pain free experience. They even took extra time to make sure all of my stains were polished out. I'm coming back here for as long as I live in San Diego.

Samantha is my hygienist here and she's so sweet. I was very curious, and she had no problem explaining the things she does and why. Dr. Fred is wonderful as well. Last time, I had a tooth extraction. I appreciated him calling me personally to make sure everything is OK after I went home. The receptionists have always been very patient and professional with me. I've never really had to wait in the lobby for a long time. FYI... Dr. Fred does not take HMO dental insurance.

I've been coming to SD Smile Dentistry for a couple years now...and their quality of care as well as customer service have consistently been top notch. The staff there are very nice and professional. Every time I show up for my appointments I don't remember ever having to wait more than 5 minutes before they get me in. One time I called them because my teeth were hurting and they got me in to see Dr. Fred right away...it turned out I needed a root canal. The staff there were able to call and book me an appointment to see a root canal specialist the very same day. If I didn't have their help I would probably have to wait a couple days before I can see the specialist. In terms of quality of care, I've had my teeth cleaned here, had my wisdom tooth pulled, crown placement, etc...never had any complications afterward. Highly recommend SD Smile Dentistry!

Just started coming to this Dental office due to a change of insurance and the main reason I choose it was due to the raving reviews online. So far, I’ve had a really great experience coming here especially considering I’m one of the many people that don’t enjoy dental office visits. Recently I had to get quite a bit of work done, and they were very patient with me preferring to use laughing gas during my appointment as I know those things can get in the way (my sister works in the Dental Industry too) They even have Netflix goggles to help keep you distracted while getting work done! Looking forward to continuing getting my dental work done here especially since I can enjoy a good movie while getting my teeth drilled on. The team here in the office is also very friendly, accommodating, and overall a great staff!

I switched over from a dentist I had for over 5 years due to it being too far a commute. I tried this place based on the yelp reviews and I'm glad i did. Not only is it super close to my home and work, the staff and Dr. Fred are super nice. Even though I already did my xrays for the year, Dr. Fred still got them dine without any costs to me to make sure that he had everything to make an initial assessment on my teeth. I was on a 3 times a year cleaning schedule for the past 3 years and after seeing Dr. Fred, he suggested going back to 2x a year as I had healthy teeth and gums....made me wonder if my previous dentist put me on a 3x a year schedule just to collect insurance money. Overall, I had a good experience with everyone I came in contact with.

Dr. Fred and staff is extremely professional and very easy to work with. I've been visiting their office for a few years now and every experience has been a pleasant one. They'll even let you watch Netflix while you're getting all of your work done! 5 Stars!

Dr. Fred ruined my front tooth. I went in to see him for a tooth that I chipped and he put bonding on it. A few days later the bonding chipped so I went back to see him. He replaced the bonding and then grinded all of the bonding AND MY TOOTH down to almost nothing because he said my bite was off. I could barely talk or smile. I kept insisting for him to lengthen the tooth because it looked awful, and he refused saying "what part of what I am saying do you not understand" as I was in tears. He said "teeth aren't just for looks" - WOW what a terrible thing for a dentist to say to a patient who is crying. He told me to get a second opinion, so I went to another dentist the same day who did a wonderful job repairing the tooth that Dr. Fred grinded down to nothing. The other dentist said that my bite was not off enough to grind the entire tooth down. I regret going to see Dr. Fred for a chipped tooth because I left losing even more of my front tooth. Such a terrible experience. Wish I could rewind all of it and would have seen another dentist from the start so my front tooth would still be in tact. UPDATE: Just want to update and say that it is 6 months later and the bonding that was done by the second dentist is still perfectly in tact, although was completely unnecessary until Dr. Fred grinded my tooth down to nothing. Thankfully I listed to Dr. Fred and got a second opinion from a dentist other than him!

I ran into a number dentists that aggressively overprescribe treatment. I completely understand that dental offices are for-profit businesses, but having dentists up-sell services results in similar haggling as one would expect with shady car mechanics and construction contractors. I do not consider Dr. Fred Harandi to be another pushy salesmen. I felt that he gave trustworthy recommendations and did an excellent job with my teeth.

I wanted to like San Diego Smile Dentistry. Dr. Harandi is nice, they have free tea in the waiting room, and they have these cool glasses so you can watch netflix while your getting a filling. Unfortunately, the also appear to be scammers. Long story short: I had dual insurance coverage (Anthem and Delta Dental). Tom (the guy that does billing) went over my coverage with me and told me how there is no point in filing a claim with both companies as it would not save me any money, and recommended just filing with Delta Dental due to the required coordination of benefits (COB). OK, no problem. After I looked at my coverage from Delta Dental, I immediately noticed that Tom overcharged my copay. No problem, I called him and he fixed it. Then I got the statement from Delta Dental, and I noticed that he had overcharged me for the services too! Instead of charging me 20% of the contracted rate, as required by the insurance companies, he charged me 20% of a rate which they subjectively made up. When all was said and done, they charged me about double what they were allowed to and if I had not carefully checked with my benefits statement I would have never known. Then, I started getting statements from Anthem (remember: they weren't supposed to file a claim with Anthem). Upon opening these statements, I found that Tom had billed Anthem for an additional $1700 worth of work, and was paid out $849.80. About half the work that they submitted to Anthem was already paid in full by Delta Dental. THE OTHER HALF WAS WORK THEY DIDN'T EVEN DO!! This family that runs this practice, in my opinion, lacks a sound ethical framework. They overcharged me, and they collected nearly $1000 from my insurance which they were not entitled to. Everyone pays for operations like this in the form of higher insurance premiums, while Fred and Tom line their pockets. I won't be returning, and I highly suggest that any considering San Diego Smile Dentistry thinks twice about what type of businesses they want to support. Update: Dr. Harandi and Tom have contacted me about my experience. They said it was a mistake (mixed me up with another patient). On about half of the claim that could be true (when they charged for work on two teeth that they didn't work on). On the other half of the claim I personally doubt their explanation because what they submitted matches the dates which I was in the office and matches the two teeth they did work on, although it was a severe embellishment of the work done. After first offering me somewhat of a refund (which I ignored), they proceeded to submit a "corrected" claim to Anthem. They were very anxious to get this situation taken care of, and I can understand why. Unfortunately, even on the "corrected" claim which was submitted, they failed to mention that Delta Dental is the primary provider. I confirmed this by calling Anthem, and fortunately found a representative who appears determined to ensure that this office is not overpaid. If the "corrected" claims were approved as submitted, it would result in another over-payment which Dr. Harandi and Tom are not entitled to.

San Diego Smile is amazing! The staff is friendly and very competent. Appointments begin right on time and they are extremely thorough. The office is extremely clean and beautifully decorated. I can't recommend this place enough!

I switched to Dr. Fred Harandi beginning 2016 from another dentist. The experience has been truly outstanding. The staff - especially Tom - is extremely accommodating, friendly, helpful and professional (especially dealing with my pain in the a... insurance). Dr. Fred did great work on my crown, communication about what needs to be done was great and he called to check up on me in the eve after treatment (never experienced that before!!!) Today he took me in on a 12 hour notice due to a dental emergency 2 days before x-mas - because I am flying out of country! I can highly recommend this dentist - I actually drive down from LA to stay with Dr. Fred!

Fantastic dentist! I have had 2 visits here and they were both great. All of the staff is super friendly and helpful. My 2nd visit was for a deep clean so I got the privilege of wearing the cool Netflix goggles! These make all the difference when you've got your mouth full of tools! It was a little chilly in there so the dental assistant covered me in a blanket too! ? So sweet! The dentist is also very nice and makes things as quick and painless as possible. I am not a fan of the dentist so a place that makes you feel comfortable is key and this is the place! I would highly recommend this dentist! I also think the presentation of the office and the rooms are also important and those are also very nice and well kept as well and very modern.

I have so much anxiety when I have dental appointments. I had a couple of bad experiences in the past and had become fearful of the dentist. I usually cancel the appointments or delay scheduling the appointments. I was referred to Dr. Harandi by my daughter who assured me I was in good hands, so I decided to give it a try. When I first walked in I noticed the nice décor, cleanliness and the fresh smell of the office. Tom the front desk person was excellent and checked me in promptly. He even helped me complete the online dental form right at check in, no long written forms to complete. The back office staff was GREAT, very nice and comforting. I think they noticed I was really nervous during my visit. My x-rays were completed without any discomfort and my oral exam with Dr. Harandi went smoothly and again no pain. After my visit I was so relieved the visit went absolutely well. After my visit, I decided I will stay with Dr. Harandi and his staff for my future dental needs. I’ve also decided to have this office manage my children’s dental needs especially since they have movies for the kids to watch during their visits. The staff is friendly and courteous. Tom works with you so closely on your finances / options and schedules that you dont need to worry about anything . I highly recommend them.

I just recently moved to San Diego from the east coast and have been getting all of my doctors appointments in order. I'm SO GLAD that I found this dentist that was recommended to me by a co-worker. Tom at the front is super nice and incredibly helpful. From my initial phone call to schedule, to checking in, to explaining my insurance and coverage he was excellent, knowledgeable, and honest. Tom is very personable and gives off a great vibe. I felt welcome in the office as soon as I walked in. Berny, the tech, was also great and did a wonderful job cleaning my teeth and taking the x-rays! Dr. Fred is the best dentist I've ever seen. He answered all of my questions (I had so many!) and he spends so much time with you compared to other dentists I've been to and was totally helpful in explaining his treatment and (unfortunately) my future fillings. I can't get over how much time he actually spends with his patients. It's such a refreshing change from other dentists I've been to. Overall, great, clean, friendly, up to date office that will make going back for fillings a little less painful :).

I love this dentist's office! This is the best experience I've had at at any dentist in years. The appointments are so easy, Dr. Fred is very friendly, and Tom is super nice and hospitable. I love that you can text them to confirm or change appts! They don't try and upsell you anything (like other dentists I've seen) and a cleaning appointment takes less than an hour. My fiance and I will both continue coming here for all our dental needs!

I started going here over a year ago for my regular cleanings. I loved all the reviews people had to say about San Diego Smile Dentistry, and I was also very happy with my experience.Tom at the front desk is very friendly and Dr. Harandi was very professional. I invested in the Invisalign so I had frequent visits throughout the year. I am extremely happy with my results. They even gave me a free bottle of cleaning solution (worth $40) for my retainers. I would highly recommend San Diego Smile Dentistry.

Dr. Fred and Tom are excellent!! I have been going to San Diego Smile for the last 3 years. They are friendly, honest and efficient. I never feel like they are requesting unneccessary procedures or upselling. I can't recall waiting for any appointment. Tom is excellent with scheduling and billing and will explain all charges with you. No surprises. I would highly recommend to anyone.

I like this place. I have been going there for a few years and have been consistently happy. Dr. Fred is pleasant and straight forward. He is gentle and attentive when working on your teeth. Tom at the front desk is always very nice and super responsive. And the rest of the staff is the same. The team seems to work well together. They are always on time, and make it easy and efficient but not rushed. I recommend San Diego Smile Dentistry.

I've been going to San Diego Smile for a few years now and have always had a positive experience. Dr. Fred is kind, gentle, and explains everything before he does it. He and his staff are always on schedule (I never have to wait) and get me in and out quickly. He also worked with me on cost when I was in law school and had no insurance. My only complaint is that his dog (who apparently hangs out in the office) is never there when I am :). But shout out to Tom at the front desk, who I guess is a good alternative :). In sum, I highly recommend SD Smile!

This is probably my favorite dentist ever. Dr. Fred, Tom and the entire staff make going to the dentist a fantastic experience. They are attentive, friendly and my teeth feel great every time I leave. If you have a procedure that takes more time, they have these cool glasses that you can watch Netflix on -- really cool!

Had my first appointment with San Diego Smile Dentistry and really had a wonderful experience! First off, after my insurance information was taken care of, there was no wait. I got called in even before I had the chance to sit down. After I got my x-rays done, once again, there was no wait. I feel like usually after the nurse is done with her part, you usually have to wait in the chair a while before the dentist comes to see you. However, everyone was very attentive and Dr. Fred came to clean my teeth right away. Speaking of Dr. Fred, I was having jaw pains and it turned out I was clenching my teeth at night. He suggested I get a mouth guard, or recommended that I simply massage my jaw. As a broke college student, I reallyyy appreciated that he didn't try pushing me to buy anything. Another thing I love about San Diego Smile Dentistry is that I can talk to Tom (front desk guy) through text. I've never been able to text my dentist and I think it's very cool. Not to mention that Tom is super nice and really goes above and beyond what is expected of him. If you need a new dentist, I highly recommend giving this Dentistry a try! :)

Can't say enough wonderful things about San Diego Smile Dentistry. Historically, I think I've had the worst luck with dentists, but then again I've just taken whoever was the default provider on my employer's benefits plan. So a couple years ago, I finally decided to research dentist reviews and found out about San Diego Smile after reading several wonderful reviews. The people don't lie. Right away after my first visit I could tell the difference. (I should've written a review right away.) The team here is wonderful, and there are several reasons why San Diego Smile is the best and I will never leave: 1. Dr. Fred is the best dentist I've had, and has given me great recommendations. My previous provider in Mission Valley would push me to try some new expensive product every single visit, and Dr. Fred never does that. He is also does great work and is super cool to talk to so the visits go by quickly. 2. I've never been to a doctor's or dentist's office where I didn't have to wait. They are the most timely office I have ever been to. When my work schedule throws me a loop, and I have to switch times last minute, they are extremely accommodating. They've got a fantastic collection of magazines in the lobby, but I've never gotten to read a single one of them because I've never had to wait. 3. The team of hygienists is superb. They are very professional, friendly, and work diligently. Again, no waiting in the chair for 30 minutes for someone to come in. They are very prompt. My last visit I had Tiara helping me and she did an outstanding job. 4. The facilities are excellent. Very clean and relaxing. Comfortable chairs, and LCD monitors in each room. (Great location too.) 5. Best "reminder system" ever. They send email and text reminders, and I love that I can communicate via phone, email, or text depending on when/where I am at. 6. One the most important... Insurance/ billing. Health and Dental insurance providers are notoriously difficult, especially in the last 5-6 years. At my previous provider, this was a huge issue as they left me to fend for my own on everything. (The main reason I left.) Not so with SD Smile Dentistry. Tom is great to work with and always on top of everything. He knows my insurance better than I do. Very prompt with invoicing and receipts, and that is a great peace of mind. I've written maybe 8 reviews in my lifetime, but this is one that is well overdue. Just read the other raving reviews online and make the switch if you haven't already. I was recommended to Dr. Fred from a friend who had dental work by him. I live in La Jolla though so I wasn't too happy about the commute. However, after looking up reviews from other dentists in my surrounding area I was super discouraged and decided to make the trek to SD Smile Dentistry. So happy I did!! I called to make an appointment and the phone was answered very quickly and within a few minutes the receptionist answered all my questions and we had my first appointment booked. The commute ended up not being bad at all. I was there so fast because it's right off a major road. Parking is super easy. Was greeted right away and felt super comfortable the entire time. The dental hygienist was very mindful of my comfort while taking my x-rays and I truly appreciate that. They definitely take the time to ask personal questions and make you feel comfortable. Good people and good vibes all around. Dr. Fred came in and explained what was going on with my teeth and what was necessary and not necessary. It felt like a zero pressure experience and one of the first times I wasn't over treated for unnecessary treatments (my least favorite thing at the dentist office). After I had a good understanding of what was needed, I spoke with the office manager Tim who walked through insurance, CC information and we made a plan for my work. I came back less than a week later and was able to take care of all my cavities in a ZERO stress environment. I even got to watch one of my favorite movies while getting the work done. Dr. Fred, Tom, and Bemy are amazing! They greet you with a smile and do their jobs very well. Scheduling with Tom is extremely efficient and pleasant. Bemy did a great job with my cleaning. And Dr. Fred knows his stuff...having my cavities filled was quick and painless. Everyone at San Diego Smile makes the dental experience a pleasant one :)

I've been going to San Diego Smile Dentistry for the last few years for regular check ups and cleanings. Dr. Fred, Tom, and the rest of the staff are friendly, helpful, and attentive. Their facilities are nice and clean with a calm atmosphere. Scheduling appointments is easy, and the email/text reminders are very helpful. I typically wait about 5 mins before getting called in. Highly recommended!

I was looking for a dentist that accepted my Anthem Dental PPO and found these guys online. I usually hate going to the dentist, but my visit here was probably the first time I've ever been excited for an appointment. I went to the office on St. Patty's Day for my deep cleaning and they offered me a beer. After that, they give you these movie-viewing goggles on Netflix so you can watch a movie while they do work on your teeth. They made a normally uncomfortable deep cleaning seem more like a Netflix and chill event in a comfy leather seat. I had a great experience, I learned a lot from Dr. Haraldi about the physiological mechanisms of Gum Disease and plaque calcification, and Tom at the front has always been very friendly and welcoming both inside and out of the office. I highly recommend you check these guys out!

Dr. Fred is a great dentist and he has an excellent staff. i have done my crown and he called me twice by himself to check. Very professional and honest. Highly recommended for the whole family.

I went to Dr. Fred because he did my friends smile makeover and it looks amazing. Work brought me to San Diego for a couple months and with some downtime, I decided to go for it! After an initial consultation and cleaning (which was awesome btw) I started with aligner trays to do teeth straightening. It was Invisalign but less expensive. My orthodontist was more expensive and based on the prior results I saw, I went with Dr. Fred and I'm not disappointed! The trays take a few days to adjust to but once you do it almost becomes a part of you and you automatically learn to talk in them without a lisp so nobody can tell you're wearing them. It's amazing how many people I had conversations with that had no clue I was wearing them. For the last phase I did whitening and now I have a perfect smile! Thank you so much Dr. Fred for being so easy going and making my visits painless and even fun. Also thanks to the entire staff, everyone there is so sweet. I wish you had a location in NY!

All I gotta say Dr Fred and Tom are great!!! very upfront with the costs scheduling apoinntments!!! These guys are the best!!!! At my wifes old dentist Clairmont smiles dentistry they charged her 70 grand for about the same work sd smiles has done and SD smiles does much better qualitly work at much less than half the cost than her old dentist!!!! she all ready had 6 bone graphs and is getting 6 implants much much better qualitly work than her old dentist also dr fred did a genuis way of saving a crown and did a root canal right through the crown how about that!!!! Also the crowns are made in a lab much better qualitly than same day crowns dr fred has all ready had to repair two from her old dentist!! and what they charge for crowns are at least 2 grand less than what her old dentist raked us for!!!! All I have to say we are very pleased we found them and if you want a good qualitily who is not going to take advantage of you and who is ohnest these are the guys!!!! by the way after my wife and I move and relocate in another area in San Diego and after my wifes teeth are done i need a little work done on mine and you bet even though after we move we have to take two trolleys and busses we don't drive even though we are going to live further away we will still come here for our dental work!!! you guys we love ya you are the best and thanks for the coffee when i need it God Bless San Diego Smiles Dentistry love ya guys!!!!

I've been going to San Diego Smile Dentistry ever since I moved to San Diego from the East Coast. Unfortunately, I am genetically prone to cavities and my prior fillings by my old dentist always resulted in extreme sensitivity or required root canals after a certain period of time. However, after getting a couple of fillings done by Dr. Fred Harandi, I have not had those same issues like I did in the past - which is one of the reasons I only go to him for fillings now and also took my wife here. The office environment is also very clean and quiet / professional.

I love these guys! Dr. Fred is an extremely professional and courteous dentist and scheduling is always a pleasure with his brother Tom at the front desk. I never have to wait long in the front room and every dental assistant who greets me is welcoming and well prepared. I found it easy to schedule many appointments in advance, which was important since I just completed a course of Clear Correct aligner trays with them. Smile Dentistry was SO helpful with the whole Clear Correct process. They wanted to make it as affordable as possible, and were willing to work with me on a payment plan and other discounts. I know I would have paid a lot more anywhere else. The process was quick and painless, lasting only a few months. Dr. Fred was always willing to answer my questions about how many clear aligner trays were left. I was very happy with my results and I know it is all due to the careful work of the people at Smile Dentistry!

I love these guys. I have been going there for about 5 years. Tom up front is always responsive, I've never had an issue scheduling an appointment. I have switched insurance 3 times and he always sits down with me to go over costs for procedures and alternatives. The techs are very knowledgeable and friendly. Some fun perks about the environment, when they sit you down in the exam room, you can watch netflix or hulu or listen to pandora. Their technology is very up to date, they show your xrays on the TV and walk through them with you if there is an issue. Fred is an awesome doctor with a calm demeanor. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for an easy going, relaxed dental experience.

When moving to a new city, it's hard to find all your new doctors again. I was so happy that I only had to try one dentist in San Diego. Dr. Harandi is great! I chose him because of all the good reviews and everyone is right about how good he is. Also, he was very patient with my super sensitive teeth and makes going to the dentist a breeze. From the clean and quiet waiting area (where you won't be waiting long), to the video goggles to keep you entertained and relaxed while the dentist is working on you, this place is a cut above the competition. After starting my new job and getting insurance, I visited San Diego Smile upon recommendation from a co-worker. I was impressed by the friendly staff, as well as the high end technology throughout the facility. I've had my fair share of dentist work in the past, and can attest to the high quality work performed here. From the digital x-rays and painless shots, to the Netflix movie glasses, I was very pleased with my experience. I've been back two times since to replace some fillings, and get fitted for a night guard. I'll be back in 6 months for my next cleaning with the supersonic tooth cleaner! See you soon.... Monica

If I could give SD Smile Dentistry 10 stars, I would! First off, I absolutely hate going to the dentist (don't we all?!). I saw Dr. Harandi in June for a general teeth cleaning and advised him and his staff how much anxiety I get over anything related to dental work. They were reassuring and very patient with me. He suggested I do a deeper gum cleaning and I was instantly terrified...then he suggested some measures that no other dentist has offered (distraction techniques [wearing headphones, watching tv] and medication). Yesterday was that deep gum cleaning and it was a breeze... almost enjoyable (yes, I'm even falling out of my chair laughing as I write this). Great work Dr. Harandi and every one on staff!!

They always provide a great service and are very flexible if you have a busy schedule.

I have been going to Dr. Harandi for over 4 years now! I have always been pleased with the care I have received from him and YAY NO cavities since I have been going!!! I have also been taking my son to see Dr. Harandi since his first tooth. He actually looks forward going to the Dentist. The staff is always kind and attentive to our needs. Dr. Harandi's brother Tom runs the show there, and he is equally great. He has always catered to my difficult schedule. The prices are very competitive and they have always worked with me on payments as I don't have dental insurance. I have received preventative care, cleanings, exams, emergency care and cosmetic dentistry from Dr. Harandi. He does it all. I refer SD Smile Dentistry to everyone I know. I have converted multiple family members, all who have been very happy with the care they receive and their lasting results.

Being a military family is awesome, but having to find a new dentist when you move is not. If you're a military family looking for a dentist in the Tricare dental plan network then look no further. My teenagers have been seeing Dr. Harandi for a couple of years and I highly recommend him. Reasons why San Diego Smile Dentistry should be your new dental office: 1) They go above and beyond to accommodate their patients. Just recently my son chipped his front tooth over the weekend when the office was closed. I called and left a message and was surprised that Tom, the office manager, called me back right away and was able to fit us in on Monday. 2) Tom makes everything easy - He sets up your appointments and is super friendly. He will always find a way to squeeze you in if you need to be seen right away. He sends email and text reminders so you don't forget about your appointments, handles your insurance billing and is knowledgeable about what is covered and what isn't. 3) Dr. Harandi does great work! He is great about explaining what needs to be done and answering any questions that you have. Very gentle and always concerned about his patient's comfort level. 4) They have an awesome office dog named Shah. Every dentist office should have a dog.

I would normally write a comparison but that would be unfair to Dr. Harandi. Having been to over a dozen good dentists in the past, Dr. Harandi stands alone in terms of his comfortable painless technique and better-than-expected results (and I have high expectations!). His brother Tom takes excellent care of financials and appointments, including emergencies; he even managed to schedule me in the same day that I called, complaining of a painful tooth that ultimately needed a crown. Dr Harandi's assistants are also top notch, making what is ordinarily an unpleasant experience one to literally write home (or Google) about!

I hear some people struggle finding really a good dentist- well look no further because this place, staff, service, and works are impeccable! SD smile dentistry is my first local dentist and I always feel I receive the best service in this industry. Dr.Fred of course, and his staff welcome you in such a friendly manner that you feel at ease as soon as you walk in, and their courteous, professional, and honest service will sure to feel that you came to the right place. It is conveniently located on Balboa ave in Kearny Mesa, and there is plenty of parking. The office is very clean and so is the treatment areas. Also SD Smile dentistry has quite a few high tech tools to assess/ treat you so you will feel like a part of treatment, not just waiting to be drilled! I can say this after only visiting once, and today was my only second time. It only gets better with this place and so will my smile :-) HAPPY SMILES

Dr Fred is alright in my book.

I got a groupon to get my teeth cleaned, X-rays, and exam. They used a machine that supposedly tells you that you have cavities. A friend of mine who is a dental hygienist told me that the machines aren't reliable. Anyways they said I needed to get 2 cavities filled and made me sign some paperwork saying I will come it to get them filled. I didn't and a year later I went to another dentist saying I don't have cavities. I'm pretty sure cavities don't just go away... Watch out for this place.

Dr. Fred has been my dentist for a few years now and he is great. Tom the Office Manager is also great to work with. Their follow-up is superb and they really seem to care about their patients. Highly recommend.
